My Roots and Perspective

I am an accountant. My life is well “balanced”.

It started in high school when my guidance counselor insisted, I declare a major for my college applications. I was seventeen and didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. To placate my well-intentioned counselor, I declared music as my major.

I am a self-taught guitar player. Music as a major didn’t last past my audition, so I needed to find something else to study.

I took an entry level accounting class. Accounts need to balance. It made sense to me. My accounting career started in 1976 and I retired in 2023.

It is from that foundation I am launching Cooler Heads.

Today’s Topic: Vermin

An anomaly that intrigues me is the word “Goat”. Oxford language cites, beyond the animal definition, is a lecherous man and a person to blame as in scapegoat.

Both are negative connotations, in that no one wants to be the goat.

The new definition is the Greatest Of All Time.

That is taking me a long time to get used to.

It is 2023 and it is time to change the connotation of the word Vermin.

I am referring to the “vermin” speech and social post by former president and presumptive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump.

He also wears each of his indictments as a badge of honor. “I am indicted for you,” he proudly proclaims at rallies and endlessly on Truth Social.

I propose that the anti-Trump movement change its name to the Vermin Party.

As the connotation of goat has changed, so too can the new definition of vermin.
